Hi all!

Thank you to everyone who came down for our Marrow Registry on 4/7/10 at Oakes! Because of you, we were able to provide the Be the Match Registry (BTM) with 46 new donors! According to Magda Silva, our National Marrow Donor Program/BTM representative:

“With every additional marrow donor, we are giving thousands of patients a better chance of finding a match. Your drive also helped us educate and build awareness about the life-saving benefits of joining the BTM Registry. In addition, I would like to commend your ability to captivate the interest of the ethnic community on campus. Your outreach efforts were very effective.”

Donor statistics: 14 multi race, 10 hispanic, 1 black, 5 asian, 16 caucasian.

Addressing the national registry’s disproportionate amount of Caucasian donors (~73%, which makes it less likely for patients of other ethnicities to find a marrow donor), was one of SVC’s goals for this particular registry, so thank you all for helping us make it happen! I would like to offer a special thank you to the Ethnic Resource Center for their support in this regard, as well as our awesome volunteers that helped us staff the event. Stay tuned for more exciting ways to get involved!
